Breitling unveils limited edition Chonomat 44 timepiece to celebrate Wayne Gretzky’s record 50 goals in 39 games.
Heralded as the greatest hockey player to ever play the game, to this day Wayne Gretzky still holds over 60 NHL records. One of the most impressive is a record that stood for 35 years, before Gretzky was able to break it, in only his sophomore season. 50 goals in 50 games, a record held by Montreal’s Maurice “Rocket” Richard. In the 1981-82 season Gretzky had reached 50 goals in only 39 games.
This season marks 35 years since the record was broken, in unbelievable fashion. To mark the anniversary and achievement, Breitling Watches, along with Gretzky, an ambassador of the Swiss timepiece manufacturer since 2011, have released a limited edition piece to celebrate the occasion.
The watch, unveiled at a Razney Jewlers event in Chicago on Wednesday, is a highly limited version of its Chronomat 44 timepiece, featuring a luxurious gold case, individual numbering and Gretzky’s logo placed on the subdial in the 9 o’clock position. Finished off with a genuine black leather strap and the legend’s signature on the rotor, this beautiful watch is limited to just 50 pieces and can be purchased from select Breitling retailers for a cool $31,465 USD.
Iconic #99 was excited to announce the Breitling piece saying; “I’ve been a huge Breitling enthusiast for many years, so it was wonderful to join them tonight to see the new collection of watches and meet some of my fans at Razny Jewelers. Chicago is a great hockey town and I know they look forward to some great games in the playoffs,” said Gretzky, a hockey hall-of-fame athlete.
