Kelly Oubre Jr. is serious about his passion for fashion.
The 21-year old Washington Wizards Forward continues to make all the right moves off the court to establish a brand for himself within the men’s fashion industry. Kelly recently wrapped up an internship in the fashion department at Esquire Magazine (In June,) then snagged a huge role as a CFDA Ambassador for New York Fashion Week: Men’s, which took place last week (July 10th-13th.)
Kelly’s Ambassador role entailed sitting front row at the hottest Men’s Fashion Week shows, wearing cool outfits (some gifted by designers,) sharing his experience through social media, interviews, and taking a bevy of photos.
We interviewed the modelesque 6’7″ Oubre Jr. during day 2 of Men’s Fashion Week at Skylight Clarkson Square, where most of the runway shows and presentations were held. “Swag just comes naturally for me, I do this myself,” said the heavily tatted Oubre Jr, who is very confident in his own style, and takes pride in dressing himself without the assistance of a stylist. Oubre Jr. compares his style to that of a “Rockstar,” and goes by the nickname “Wave Papi.”
At the time of our meet, Kelly donned an N.P. Elliott bold stripe tee, Vince cropped trousers, Adidas sneakers, gold frame sunglasses, and an ostentatious custom-made diamond grill designed by renowned jeweler Ben Baller.
Check out our full interview with the Wave Papi as he further discusses his Mens Fashion Week experience, and vision to start his very own clothing line dubbed “Dope$oul.”
