Lebron James and Nike are working alongside Harlem’s Fashion Row to throw a pre-New York Fashion Week event that will showcase prominent designers and fashion innovators.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 4, a couple of days before NYFW is slated to take over the city. Harlem’s Fashion Row was founded in 2007 as a premier platform for designers of color. The organization is giving praise to some of the figures in the industry that go head to head with diversity and still come out unscathed. The Honorees this year include Lebron James, Bethann Hardison, Jason Rembert and Dapper Dan. In the spirit of inclusivity, the fashion showcase will also feature the work of women-led labels, Kimberly Goldson, Fe Noel and Undra Celeste NY.

The dress code for the event is black tie, accessorized with Nike’s, of course. We’ll be on the lookout for more than just fashion moments from the attendees, as LBJ is slated to announced some surprising news alongside Harlem’s Fashion Row. Is a fashion school in the future for the athlete as well? Maybe a Nike-backed design program for young Harlem designers? If it is ordained with King James’ Midas-esque touch, it is sure to be a golden opportunity for everyone involved.

Check out this year’s group of Honorees and see their contributions to the industry.

LeBron James
NIKE

Lebron James has been known to break ground not only as a supreme athlete or fashion icon but as one of the greatest humanitarians of our generation. Fresh off of the ribbon-cutting of his “I Promise” school in Akron, Ohio, James is in a lane of his own when it comes to philanthropy.

Bethann Hardison

The Brooklyn native rose to prominence during the Afrocentric ethos of the late 60s and early 70s and infiltrated the European runway without comprising her unique identity. “I did not look like anyone else in our industry”, stated the trailblazer that is considered the mother of the fashion diversity movement.

Jason Rembert

The acclaimed stylist continues to pave his own way in the industry. His star-studded clientele includes athletes such as Kevin Love and Justin Tuck, musicians like Zayn Malik, Niles Rodgers, or Usher and illustrious fashion icon, Naomi Campbell.

MARK MANN

Dapper Dan

The Harlem designer’s name has been synonymous with high-end fashion, long before his first official collaboration with Gucci was released earlier in the year. The designer is known for his classic “bootleg” releases that put a hip twist on classic fashion house brands such as Gucci or Louis V. Dapper Dan’s definitive style has allowed him to build an empire that continues to inspire artists that refuse to play by the rules
