As the US Open dwindles down and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week speeds up, we were excited to see Ralph Lauren launch their Polo Tech Shirt on the fields of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
We fell in love with the shirts as they were debuted on the ball boys and were not surprised when we saw the distinguished horse logo embedded in the Tech Shirt. Their Polo Tech T-shirt employs “biometric readings from the shirt to be stored inside a ‘black box’ that is then conveniently streamed via Bluetooth to the user’s smartphone for a post-workout analysis”. The shirts utilize sensors knitted within the black nylon compression material to obtain results like heartbeat and respiration patterns, and of course, is accompanied by their signature logo.
Beyond being the perfect blend of fashion and comfort, they have the potential to revolutionize sports and athlete performance. However David Lauren, Executive Vice President of advertising, marketing, and corporate communications for the company, sees a place for these shirts beyond the courts. Lauren states:
“Our vision is that this will transcend sports to help us at every age and in every aspect of life. Reaching far beyond just the needs of elite athletes, Polo Tech will offer innovative technology for all ages and lifestyles to promote general wellness and quality of life.”
