“The character of a person is exuded by what they wear.” PK Subban, Montreal Canadians Defenseman and off-the-ice fashion icon.
As the fashion and sports worlds continue to blend, producing some of the most diverse, unique and phenomenal looks the world has ever seen, Sports Illustrated has debuted their list of the Top 50 Most Stylish Athletes.
Professional athletes becoming the face of the biggest and most well recognized fashion brands in the world has quickly become the new trend, as the biggest names in sports are scoring major ad campaigns, magazine covers and designer collaborations. Sports Illustrated spoke on their decision process, stating “Athletes were evaluated for more than what they wear, but how they wear it, where they wear it, why they wear it; designer collaborations, attendance at fashion shows, social media presence, investment in fashion, endorsements and other partnerships were all considered and a panel of stylists, executives, models, journalists and other influencers in the fashion industry worked with SI to help shape the list”.
Among the honorees were: Cristiano Ronaldo, New York Rangers goalkeeper Hendrik Lundqvist, PK Subban, Russell Westbrook, Serena, Venus Williams and David Beckham.
SI developed 4 different cover shots; included Denver Broncos, Super Bowl 50 MVP, Von Miller. In a fresh and bold look, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook also graced one of the covers in an eye-catching leopard coat. New York Giants fashion star Victor Cruz, and Liberty’s Swin Cash was also featured on one of the covers.
