New York Mets star pitcher Matt Harvey missed the entire 2014 campaign due to the dreaded Tommy John operation, but as Harvey said in his sit-down with GQ Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson, “Everything happens for a reason.”
His time off from baseball has given Harvey an opportunity to explore some of his other interests, which include fashion. GQ and Nelson invited Harvey to their Times Square office to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to put a fashion publication together.
“Walking in seeing all the clothes, seeing how everything is run was a little overwhelming at first,” said Harvey. “I’m getting to see how things work in the fashion world, and it’s definitely exciting.”
Harvey has not shied away from the spotlight since emerging as an All-Star pitcher in 2013. He dated supermodel Anne V for more than eight months, and is prominent in the New York City social scene.
Harvey points to growing up with two sisters as one the factors that drew his interest to fashion.
“Getting involved with fashion, it starts with my sisters,” he explains. “You see their magazines lying around, and watch their style change over the years…” “I think looking good is fun,” Harvey declared to Nelson. “It’s New York!”
