NFL Quarterback Cam Newton(Carolina Panthers) is keeping himself occupied during the off-season in fashion, as he debuted his collaborative Menswear collection, ‘MADE Cam Newton’ with Belk Inc.(The Macy’s of the south) this past Monday. I don’t know if you recall, but a couple months ago, I actually covered Cam’s Mensline introduction, which was set for an spring 2013 release. Now the collection is here right on time, which I’m super excited about. With inspiration from his own personal style, ‘Made Cam Newton’ consist of a variety of formal to causal wear pieces, selling at very affordable price points($28-$500). And If I say affordable, trust me, its affordable. ‘Made Cam Newton’ is currently available at 133 Belk department stores, and through the company’s website . Cam Newton x Esquire Magazine.

The Fabulous Nic Screws, of Esquire Magazine, recently caught up with Cam Newton for an entertaining  one-on-one interview. Cam Newton, the southern gentlemen(referring to Nic Screws, as ‘Miss Nic’) chatted with the ‘Lady Esquire’ on his current Men’s line ‘Made Cam Newton’ , finishing up his college degree, personal style, and his take on this sudden wave of stylish athletes(Cam should check out my site). Below is a small preview of their conversation, Click to read full interview.

Cam speaks on his ‘Made Cam Newton’ collection

ESQ: The collection is pretty versatile. It has everything from tailoring to sportswear basics like polos and T-shirts. My favorite category is the tailoring, including the very on-trend pastel sport coats. And the prices are excellent! Suit separates ranging from $80-$240, woven shirts starting at $60 …

CN: That’s something I am very proud of, the versatility. I wanted there to be something for everyone — whether you need a suit for a formal dinner or date, or a more professional suit for a work event, we have it. Or if you just want to lay around and kick it with your homeboys, there are great casual pieces as well. And everything is at a very accessible price, which is something that’s very important to me.

Cam’s take on Athletes and style

ESQ: It does seem that way — the moment of the stylish athlete is upon us and it’s great and glorious.

CN: Definitely. Athletes as a whole are just starting to get it. In football, sure, but especially in basketball where the person is more likely to be open to taking chances. Look at people like Russell Westbrook in his lensless glasses or players like Dwayne Wade and Carmelo, who are always keeping them guessing. For football — and this is especially true in the quarterback position —  the approach to clothing is more classic and traditional. My peers like Eli and Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, say — they are all looking good and stepping up their style game. But’s it’s still not the pinnacle the way it is in basketball.
