Russell Westbrook is continuing to expand his fashion profile.
Whether he is making a strong MVP case on the court, designing his XO Barney’s capsule collections or cruising through Paris Fashion Week, it’s hard to guess where the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard will go next. His current venture: a sequel collaboration with True Religion just in time for spring — a relaxed 15-piece collection featuring denim, tees, tanks, and a leather jacket.
Westbrook, was named the Marketing Creative Director of True Religion after last year’s “Modern-day Outlaw” and “Be So Bold” campaigns.
When asked about his possible title as the “Fashion King of the NBA”, at True Religion’s flagship store in Brooklyn, New York, the outspoken Westbrook proclaimed, “Yes, I can say that I am!” I definitely take pride in dressing up and being creative in what I wear so it’s good.”
About his partnership with True Religion:
“We have a lot of similarities: what we believe in, how we want to portray our brands,” said Westbrook, who was named campaign creative director of True Religion in February 2015 and starred in that Spring’s campaign. “I think I use a mindset of ‘Why not?’ That’s my slogan. That’s how they brand it. They are risk-takers,” he said of his new partners.
True Religion chief executive officer David Conn explains that the “influence of sports on fashion has increased dramatically. Working with a pro athlete was a natural for us. A lot of players shop in our stores, and Russell is as well known for what he does on the court as what he wears at the press conference after the game.”
